COUNCIL MEMBER FOR DISTRICT 6, NASHVILLE

I love Nashville, and it is an honor to serve our community on the Metro Council. Direct service to the people of the District is why I am here, so if you need something or have a question, please reach out to me at clay.capp@nashville.gov or 615-864-0008. For most routine requests and city services, the Metro Departments are equipped to respond to you directly through Hub Nashville.

I am also working to support public education; to address the key interlocking issues of affordability, public safety, transit, congestion, and green space; and to stand up for the rights of Nashvillians when they are targeted by the State. To me, the success of our neighborhoods and our children will require both re-focusing on the basics of city government, day-to-day, and long-range planning for a safe and sustainable future.

If you'd like updates on city issues and what I am working on, you can sign up for my newsletter here.

ABOUT CLAY

Clay was born and raised in Nashville. His mom was a special education teacher with Metro Schools, and he spent much of his childhood in Nashville’s neighborhood parks and libraries. He even got his start in community service at Metro Parks, planting trees and improving signage at Centennial Park for his Eagle Scout service project.

Clay graduated from Harvard in 2006 and the University of Pennsylvania Law School in 2010. He started his career at New York’s Legal Aid Society, representing young people in the Bronx, and has worked in the public interest sector ever since. While at Legal Aid, he was lead counsel in the matter of J.D. v Hansell, et al., which successfully challenged New York City’s parole revocation system for young people. Leading to basic reforms, the victory in that case was featured on the front page of the New York Law Journal.

But Clay was called back to his hometown of Nashville, with his wife Ali, to raise their two young children in the city they love. They live in the East Nashville neighborhood of Lockeland Springs, and they are a Metro Schools family. Clay has served as the Legal Director for the Tennessee Justice Center, and was most recently on staff at the Metro Nashville Public Defender’s Office. He is on the board of the Lockeland Springs Neighborhood Association, and is a member of Friends of Shelby Park and Bottoms.
